Chagrin Valley Handyman Service Terms

Version 1.0 · Last updated October 21, 2026

These terms are part of every job we do for you. Please read them with your quote.

"We", "us" and "CVH" mean Chagrin Valley Handyman of Newbury, Ohio. "You" means the person who approves the quote. "The quote" means the written quote we sent you for your job.

Questions? Call or text (440) 485-4021 or email info@chagrinvalleyhandyman.com.

1. How this agreement works

1.1 Your agreement has two parts. Your quote says what we will do, what it costs, what you supply and what is not included. These terms say how we work together. If your quote and these terms disagree, your quote wins.

1.2 How you agree. You agree to your quote and to these terms when you approve the quote. You can approve in either of two ways:

  • reply to our quote email with the words "I approve", or
  • tap Approve on your quote page at chagrinvalleyhandyman.com.

Your approval is your signature. It has the same effect as signing a paper contract.

1.3 Which version applies to you. Your quote shows the version number of these terms and links to that exact version. That version applies to your job from start to finish, including any changes you approve along the way.

1.4 We may change these terms. We may change these terms at any time, without notice. A change applies only to quotes approved after the new version is posted. A change never applies to a job you have already approved. Every version stays online at chagrinvalleyhandyman.com/service-terms, with its version number, so you can always see the one you agreed to.

1.5 Your quote is good for 30 days. After 30 days we may need to price the job again. A quote you approved within 30 days does not expire.

1.6 Larger jobs. These terms cover jobs up to $25,000. A job over $25,000 needs a separate written contract.

1.7 Our website terms. The Terms of Service on our website cover use of the website and our text messages. For your job, your quote and these Service Terms control.

2. Electronic records and signatures

We do business by email, text and web page. Before you approve, please know:

  • What this covers. By approving, you agree to get your quote, these terms, change orders, bills and receipts electronically, and you agree that your electronic approval is your signature. This covers this job only.
  • What you need. A phone or computer with internet access, an email account, a web browser and a way to open PDF files. If you can open the links in our quote email, you have what you need.
  • Paper copies. You can ask for a free paper copy of any record at any time. Call, text or email us.
  • Changing your mind. Before you approve, you can tell us you want to do this on paper instead. We will mail or hand you paper copies to sign. Doing so does not undo records we already sent.
  • Keep us current. If your email address changes, tell us.

3. Our prices

3.1 Service call. Every job starts with a $75 service call. It covers the first 30 minutes of work at your home.

3.2 Hourly rates. After the first 30 minutes:

  • handyman work is $75 an hour, and
  • electrical and plumbing work is $85 an hour.

We bill in 30-minute steps. Time is rounded up to the next half hour. Time starts when we arrive at your home.

3.3 Hourly quotes. An hourly quote gives an estimated range of time and cost. You pay for the actual time, rounded up as above.

  • The 10% rule. If it looks like your bill will go more than 10% over the top of the estimate, we stop and ask you first. We do not go on until you say yes.
  • The not-to-exceed amount. Your quote also shows a "not to exceed" amount. We never bill more than that amount without your OK, given after we ask.

3.4 Fixed-price quotes. A fixed-price quote gives one price for the work listed in the quote. That price does not change because the work takes us longer. It changes only if you approve a change order (section 6) or a hidden-condition price (section 7).

3.5 Shop supplies. We charge $5 for shop supplies for each billed visit that runs over 30 minutes. This covers small items like screws, anchors, tape, wire nuts and caulk. It is shown on your quote.

3.6 Materials.

  • Materials are listed at our cost.
  • Parts from our truck, and materials we order or buy before the visit they are used on, carry a 25% materials handling charge. It pays for buying, picking up and delivering them to your home.
  • If you ask us to go to the store during a visit, the drive there and back is billed as time at the job's hourly rate. The part is at cost, with no handling charge. You never pay both handling and drive time on the same part.
  • Items you supply carry no charge from us.

3.7 Extra visits. Your quote shows how many visits we expect. A full day means 6 hours of access to your home.

  • Each visit after the first carries a $50 trip charge. This applies to planned visits (for example, waiting for mud, glue or paint to dry, or when you can give us fewer than 6 hours a day) and to visits caused by something on your side (for example, no one home, no access, or a part you were to supply is missing).
  • We never charge a trip charge for a visit we caused.
  • The $75 service call is charged once per job, not again on later visits. Hourly time continues on each visit.

3.8 Card, bank transfer or cash. Our listed prices are card prices. Pay by bank transfer or cash and you get 2.5% off the amount you pay that way. We never add a fee for paying by card.

3.9 No sales tax line. Our bills do not add a separate sales tax line.

4. Paying us

4.1 Materials are paid first. When we buy materials for your job, you pay the full materials amount, including the 25% handling charge, before we buy them. You pay through the link on your quote page. We do not buy materials until that payment clears.

4.2 The rest is due when the job is done. When we finish, we send your bill by text or email with a secure payment link. Payment is due when you receive it.

4.3 What your bill shows. Your bill lists the work we did, each part and material and its cost, whether any part is used or rebuilt, the labor charge and the name of the person who did the work.

  • Hourly jobs: the actual time, rounded up to the half hour, never more than the amount you approved.
  • Fixed-price jobs: the fixed price, plus any changes you approved.

4.4 Reminders. If a bill is unpaid, we send one reminder after 3 days and one after 7 days. After that, we will contact you directly.

4.5 Unpaid bills. If a bill stays unpaid, we may stop any other work for you until it is paid, and we may seek what is owed as Ohio law allows, including interest at the rate Ohio law sets.

4.6 Questions about a bill. If you think part of a bill is wrong, tell us within 14 days. Please pay the part you agree with while we sort it out.

4.7 Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card or bank numbers.

5. When and how we schedule

  • Visit times are set directly with our technician, by phone or text. Automatic messages from us never set or confirm an appointment time.
  • Start and finish dates are our best estimate. Weather, drying and curing times, and supply delays can move them. We will tell you as soon as we know.
  • If you need to change a visit, tell us as early as you can.
  • If we arrive at the agreed time and cannot get in or cannot work, a $50 trip charge applies.

6. Changes you ask for

  • If you want more or different work, we price it first.
  • We send you a change order by text. It says what will change and what it will cost.
  • We do not start the change until you approve it by text. Your text reply is your signature for that change.
  • Extra hourly work is billed at the job's hourly rate in 30-minute steps. On fixed-price jobs, the change order gives a fixed price for the extra work.
  • Parts for a change follow the materials rules in section 3.6.

7. Surprises we find (hidden conditions)

Some problems cannot be seen until we open a wall, pull a fixture or lift a floor. Examples are rot, leaks, damaged or unsafe wiring, and mold.

If we find one:

  1. We stop work on that part of the job.
  2. We show you, in person or by photo.
  3. We give you a price to deal with it.

You then decide. You can approve the price, ask us to close up and leave it as it is, or have someone else handle it. If something is unsafe, we will do only what is needed to make it safe (for example, shut off the water or power to that area) and then call you. On hourly jobs, that time is part of your billed time. On fixed-price jobs, it costs you nothing extra.

8. What you are responsible for

To keep your job on time and on budget, you agree to:

  • Give us access. Make sure we can get in at the agreed time, with a key, code or an adult at home. Tell us about gates, alarms and parking.
  • Keep pets away from the work area, secured for the whole visit.
  • Clear the work area. Move small items, valuables, breakables, wall hangings and anything on shelves or counters. Move furniture unless your quote says we will.
  • Provide utilities. Working electricity, water and lighting in the work area. Shutoff valves and breakers should be reachable.
  • Get approvals. Get any approval your homeowners association, condo board or landlord requires before work starts.
  • Give us accurate information. Tell us the year your home was built, known problems, past repairs and anything hidden that we could hit, such as pipes, wires, radiant heat or buried lines.
  • Tell us about hidden conditions you know of, like past leaks, soft floors, flickering lights or a valve that doesn't shut off.
  • Supply your items on time. Anything you are supplying must be on site before the first visit, unopened and complete, in the right size and quantity. See section 10.
  • Make choices on time. Colors, finishes and models you pick must be decided before the visit they are needed for.
  • Keep the work area safe. Keep children and visitors out of the work area while we work.

If something on this list is not done, the visit is billed for the time we spend and a $50 trip charge applies to any return visit it causes.

9. What we are responsible for

We will:

  • do the work in your quote carefully and in a good, workmanlike way;
  • follow the building rules that apply to the work we do;
  • show up when agreed, or tell you ahead of time if we can't;
  • protect floors and furnishings next to the work with drop cloths or covers;
  • keep dust down with reasonable care;
  • clean up the work area each day and at the end of the job;
  • photograph damage that is already there before we start, and point it out to you;
  • ask you before any charge you have not approved;
  • follow lead-safe and asbestos stop rules (section 12);
  • give you an itemized bill (section 4.3);
  • give you any old parts we replace (section 11);
  • come back and fix our workmanship for 7 days (section 14);
  • fix or pay for damage we cause through our own fault (section 15); and
  • tell you before the work starts if anyone other than our own staff will do part of your job, and who they are if you ask.

10. Items you supply

You are welcome to supply your own fixtures, fans, faucets, hardware, paint or other products. When you do:

  • They must be on site before the first visit, unopened and complete, with all parts, hardware and instructions.
  • If an item is missing parts, the wrong size, damaged or defective, the time we spend on it is billed, and a $50 trip charge applies to any return visit.
  • Our 7-day callback covers our labor only (section 14). We never warrant the product; only its maker does. If a product you supplied fails, the labor to remove and replace it is billed.
  • We add no markup to items you supply.

11. Cleanup, leftovers and old parts

  • Cleanup. We sweep or vacuum the work area, and remove our tools, packaging and empty containers. Deep cleaning is not included.
  • Leftover materials you paid for are yours. We leave them with you. Leftover paint is labeled by room.
  • Old parts and fixtures we remove are yours. We leave them with you, unless your quote says we will haul them away.
  • Hauling and disposal of old items, debris or junk is included only if your quote lists it.
  • Hazardous items. We do not haul or dispose of hazardous items such as solvents, oil-based paint, chemicals, or appliances that hold refrigerant.

12. Safety rules and work we do not do

12.1 Homes built before 1978. Paint in these homes may contain lead. Tell us the year your home was built. Federal lead-safe rules (EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting rules) apply when work disturbs more than 6 square feet of painted surface per room inside, or 20 square feet outside, or involves replacing windows or removing painted parts. We only do that work if your quote says it will be done under those rules. Otherwise, it is not included and we will stop before going past those limits.

12.2 Suspected asbestos. Older homes can have asbestos in popcorn or textured ceilings, joint compound, vinyl floors and their backing, pipe insulation and siding. We do not cut, sand, drill or remove material that may contain asbestos. If we find suspect material, work in that area stops until it has been tested by a qualified tester, at your cost. A return visit after testing is an extra visit (section 3.7).

12.3 Work we do not do. We do not take on, and our quotes never include:

  • any TV work: no TV mounting, no TV stands and no in-wall TV power kits of any kind;
  • new electrical circuits, electrical panels, EV-charger or appliance circuits, or water heaters (we can refer you to someone who does);
  • work at heights beyond what we can do safely and within our insurance limits;
  • mold removal, or asbestos testing or removal; and
  • anything your quote lists as not included.

13. Cancelling

13.1 Cancelling. You can cancel your job at any time by telling us in writing (text or email is fine).

  • Before we buy materials: no charge. We refund any materials payment in full.
  • After we buy materials: the materials are yours. We deliver them to you, or, if you prefer and the store allows it, we return them and refund what the store refunds us, less any store restocking fee. The materials handling charge is not refunded once we have bought the materials.
  • After work starts: you pay for the time worked and the materials used up to that point, including time to make the area safe and put things back together where we can.

13.2 When we may stop or cancel. We may stop work or cancel the job if conditions are unsafe, if we find hazardous material, if we are threatened or mistreated, or if a bill goes unpaid. If we cancel, you pay only for work done and materials bought, and we refund anything you paid for work not done.

14. Our 7-day callback

14.1 What it covers: our labor only. If our workmanship fails within 7 days of the day we finish, tell us. We will come back and redo that work at no charge. This is the only guarantee we give.

14.2 We never warrant parts. We do not warrant any part or material, ever. That includes parts we buy for you and parts from our truck. If a part fails, or something breaks for a reason that is not our workmanship or cannot be traced to it, the callback does not apply. The labor to remove and replace the part is billed at our normal rates. Any warranty on a part comes from its maker; we will give you the maker's details.

14.3 What else it does not cover:

  • damage from misuse, abuse, accidents, pets, weather or lack of upkeep;
  • leaks or water getting in from causes other than our work;
  • settling, shrinking or movement of the house, and cracks or nail pops that come back because of it;
  • normal wear;
  • work changed or repaired by someone else; and
  • anything your quote listed as not included.

14.4 After 7 days. A return visit is a new job, billed at our normal rates.

14.5 How to ask. Call, text or email us within the 7 days. Tell us what is wrong and send a photo if you can. We decide whether the problem is our workmanship or one of the things in 14.2 or 14.3. If it is our workmanship, we fix it.

14.6 Your rights under Ohio law. Nothing here takes away any right Ohio law gives you that cannot be waived.

15. Damage and limits on what we owe

We are insured. CVH carries liability insurance. Ask us and we will send you a certificate of insurance.

15.1 Damage we cause. If we damage your home or belongings through our own fault, we will repair it or pay the reasonable cost to repair it. Please tell us as soon as you notice it.

15.2 What we are not responsible for. We are not responsible for:

  • conditions that were there before we started, including code problems in parts of your home we were not hired to work on;
  • concealed damage that we could not see until the work opened it up, and the cost to fix it (we will stop, show you and price it, as in section 7);
  • old or worn parts that fail during careful work, such as seized or corroded valves, brittle pipes or fittings, cracked tile, or old paint or caulk that lifts. We will warn you when we see this risk. Fixing it is a change order;
  • exact matches to old paint, stain, texture, tile, trim or other finishes, or to products that are no longer made. We will get as close as we reasonably can;
  • products you supplied, including defects, recalls, wrong sizes and missing parts;
  • items you did not move or clear from the work area;
  • hidden pipes, wires or other items inside walls, floors or ground that could not be seen and that you did not tell us about, if we used reasonable care;
  • damage caused by pets, other people or other contractors;
  • delays caused by weather, drying times, supply problems or other things outside our control; and
  • design choices you make, such as colors, layouts or products.

15.3 Indirect losses. We are not responsible for indirect losses, such as loss of use of a room, hotel stays, time off work, or lost income.

15.4 Our total limit. For any claim about our work on a job, the most we owe is the price you paid us for that job. This limit does not apply to injury to people or damage to property caused by our negligence, or to anything Ohio law does not allow us to limit.

16. Photos and your information

  • We take photos before, during and after the work. We use them for your job record, your bill, callback requests and to settle any question about the work.
  • We use photos of your job in our marketing only with your permission. If you agree, we do not show your face, your house number, or personal items that could identify you.
  • We keep your contact details, photos and job records private. We do not sell them. We share them only with the people who help us do your job or take your payment, or when the law requires it.
  • Our website Privacy Policy explains more.

17. If we disagree

17.1 Talk to us first. Most problems can be fixed with a call. Call, text or email us. We will reply within 5 business days and try to make it right.

17.2 Courts. If we cannot work it out, either of us may bring a claim in the small claims division of the municipal or county court for the area where the work was done (for claims up to the small-claims limit, currently $6,000), or in any other court with authority over the claim in the county where the work was done.

17.3 Ohio law governs these terms and your job.

17.4 Your other rights. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act or your right to contact the Ohio Attorney General.

18. Other legal terms

  • The whole agreement. Your approved quote, these terms, any change orders you approve are the whole agreement for your job. Nothing else changes it unless we both agree in writing (a text or email is fine).
  • If one part is invalid, the rest of these terms still apply.
  • If we don't enforce a term once, we can still enforce it later.
  • Partners. If we bring in a partner for part of a job, the partner is named on your quote and priced separately. We stay responsible to you for the work we do ourselves.
  • Notices. We send notices to the email address or phone number on your quote. You can send notices to info@chagrinvalleyhandyman.com or (440) 485-4021.
